Half Hardy Perennial. Ht 40cm. This tarragon has smooth, dark green, spear shaped, narrow leaves with a very strong flavour that is superior to any other Tarragon. It will need protection from frost. Plant in slightly moist soil in full sun. Used extensively in French cuisine, particularly chicken, egg and fish dishes.

Perennial. Ht 10cm. A fully hardy, creeping, good culinary thyme with lemon scented and flavoured leaves and pink flowers throughout Summer. Good for ground cover, planting in gravel and between slabs or stones, it can also be used for culinary purposes. Plant in well drained soil in full sun or partial shade.

This has got to be that one herb that everyone wants all of the time. A hardy biennial, it does need replacing to ensure a consistent crop but thrives in a damp, slightly shaded site and benefits from a good feed. It’s difficult to decide which is the more popular - the curled variety is a timeless favourite but many prefer the Flat Leaved or French variety; meant to have a stronger flavour and favoured by the TV chefs, I remain unconvinced!

And just to make it a little more confusing we have the Italian variety with even bigger flat leaves and Hamburg that is cultivated for its roots.
