An unusual plant which produces clusters of small onions on top of tall, hollow stems. When ripe these collapse and the small bulbs root where they rest. Hence the common names of Marching Onions, Walking Onions or Egyptian Onions. Producing white flowers in early Summer, they are suited to a rich, well drained soil and are ideal for pots and tubs. The small onions may be used in salads or for pickling.
