Coriander Plants - A Glimpse of History
Coriander has been spicing up kitchens and medicine cabinets for thousands of years! Its roots trace back to ancient civilisations across the Mediterranean, North Africa, and Asia, where it was valued as much for its medicinal benefits and culinary charm. Egyptians were among the first to cultivate coriander, even placing it in their pharaohs' tombs as a prized plant for the afterlife. The Greeks, too, were fans, and they passed it along to the Romans, who spread it throughout Europe and even to Britain.
Coriander is also mentioned in ancient Sanskrit texts from India for its health-boosting qualities. In Chinese medicine, it’s been a trusted herbal remedy for centuries. Coriander has travelled the globe from Egypt to Greece, India and beyond, becoming a staple in dishes and medicines across diverse cultures.

Over the centuries, coriander has earned its place in many dishes, from spicy curries to fresh salsa, soups, and salads. But people have cherished more than just the leaves; coriander seeds, with their warm, nutty flavour, have added complexity to culinary creations and healing remedies alike.
Today, coriander is beloved worldwide for its bright, citrusy leaves and versatile seeds. Whether you call it coriander or cilantro, this ancient herb has a timeless appeal. It’s a living piece of history that you can bring straight into your kitchen.
Parsley Plants - Growing
Cultivating coriander is simple and rewarding. It thrives in sunny spots with well-drained soil, reaching its full, leafy glory in just a few weeks. Coriander is also an excellent companion plant, as its aroma helps deter pests from nearby vegetables. Our coriander herb plants are expertly cultivated to grow vigorously, producing lush green leaves and fragrant seeds that you can enjoy in a variety of recipes.
Planting Tips:
-
Soil - Choose a rich, well-draining soil to support healthy growth.
-
Sunlight - loves sunlight but can benefit from partial shade, especially during hot afternoons.
-
Watering - Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid over-watering to prevent root rot.
Coriander Plants - Harvesting
One of the many benefits of growing coriander is its quick harvest time. You can start snipping those vibrant leaves when the plant reaches about 10-15cm tall. Simply snip off the stems as needed for culinary use, encouraging the plant to continue producing new leaves. You can keep harvesting throughout the growing season.
Just remember to leave a few leaves on each plant to encourage new growth. Coriander’s seeds can also be harvested and dried, adding an earthy, warm spice to your pantry.

With your own coriander plants, you’ll have access to both fresh leaves and aromatic seeds, ideal for everything from curries to chutneys.
